This is so on point. Have you listened to The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill podcast by Christianity Today? It is SO GOOD and hits on many of the points you mention.

A lot of my friends in ministry have mentioned that podcast to me, but I haven’t listened to it yet. That church (and their pastor) are mentioned in a few of the books and articles that I’ve been reading in preparation for my class and this series of posts.

I appreciate you reading and the positive feedback. I’ll have to look that podcast up and listen soon.

It’s a very good listen but one of the things I love about it so much is that while it does call out corruption and bad actors, it is not with the intent for harm, rather redemption. It focuses on the systems and circumstances that lead to the downfall of the charismatic leaders. It seems less like dragging evil men through the fire and more about encouraging each one of us to walk in the light, being transparent and accountable to one another, and yes, to see how our actions and pressures can destroy our leaders (overlooking their flaws, hiding them to save the organization, making it impossible for them to confess sin and be healed, silencing the voices of those they hurt, etc). I’m really looking forward to your next lessons!
